Review of Travis-"The boy with no name"

So Travis just released their lastest album, "The Boy With No Name" on the 8th of May. I didn't even know that, what a lousy fan, but I have an explaination for that. 1) I don't listen to the radio very often now and 2) I was disappointed by their last album, "12 Memories".

So, times when I do tune in, I will always stop to listen to this song, "Just need to be closer, closer" and I tell myself, that's a nice song, if only the DJ would annouce the song title.

Anyway, on thursday, I was searching for songs on Uk's Top 20 charts, been trying to find a song that suits this lyrics "what you going to do with stars in the sky.", quite an upbeat song, nvm.. that will go to another post. I found out that Travis had a new song, called "Closer' and I searched YouTube for the video and alas..

Travis- Closer

I like!

Went to their site and searched for the rest of the songs, managed to find 2 other songs, "My eyes" and "Selfish Jean". Erm, both are fan vids, but somebody did "My eyes" into a gay boy show... man... my eyes..

Anyhow, after listening to these 3 songs, I decided to purchase their album. Erm, the last album I bought was Coldplay's X&Y. See the trend?

After hearing it for the first time, I was pretty happy because it was waaaayyy better than "12 Memories". And I was right, the better songs were "Closer", "My Eyes", and "Selfish Jean". After listening to it a few more times... and reading the lyrics, which i find makes a big difference, I like "Big Chair", "3 times and you lose", "under the moonlight", "battleship". Ok, that's 7/12 songs...

Ok, so I am biased, I'm a travis fan. But, this album redeemed the lousy album of "12 memories". It's like they are back, not at the "The man who" and "Invisible Band" level yet. But, they've got the melody and lyrics that characterizes itself as Travis. Afterall, Travis paved the way for british indie/rock, moody and bittersweet songs--> I like! Really, I've read before that Travis paved the way for bands like Coldplay and Snow Patrol. And also something like, Chris Martin credits Travis for inventing Coldplay.. Hee hee. Ok, So, if you like the songs that i like, then you would prob enjoy this album too. Can't wait for Travis to hold a concert, front row baby!

Anyway, there are lots of good travis songs that you should hear

Good Feeling (1997)

The Man Who (2000)
The Invisible Band (2001)
Ok, that's the whole album.. hee hee

12 Memories (2003)
The Boy With No Name (2007)
